Brittany
Brittany entrusted me with rehabilitating her from a total hip replacement and an achilles tear. I relied on my extensive knowledge in anatomy and physiology to modify and adapt the Pilates method, resulting in her ability to regain full mobility and circumvent a secondary hip surgery. I wanted Brittany to feel inspired by her own progress, so I motivated and empowered her to trust and believe in herself. Brittany’s successful recovery served as evidence to me that a properly implemented treatment is essential to rehabilitation and can enhance the quality of life. I continuously desired to gain further insight and a profound understanding of body mechanics, so I became a member of Pilates Method Alliance to join a community of professionals in the field. With my expertise, I began to notice that Pilates demands further modifications to accommodate the vast majority of injuries, disabilities, and pregnancy. I realized that being a Pilates instructor was fulfilling, yet insufficient for being a movement expert, to prescribe exercise and to be more involved in hands-on care. As a recent new mom, I applied my teachings to ease my pregnancy symptoms, to physically prepare my body for labor, and to facilitate post recovery. I developed a series of prenatal workshops, which gave me the opportunity to share my expertise and personal experience in my community with women entering the life stage of motherhood. The positive feedback encouraged me to delve further into Women’s Health studies. Consequently, I dedicated significant hours observing women’s health specialists at the USC Physical Therapy Clinic-UPC. Closely interacting with board-certified specialists, inspired and once again reminded me of my mother’s advice that anything in life is within reach.
